TORRES DEL PAINE PROGRAM
The Torres del Paine National Park is renowned as one of the most beautiful and remote places on the planet, with over 160,000 hectares of unspoilt wilderness comprising glaciers, ice fields and lush green forests. Wildlife is abundant here, and includes huemels, condors and guanacos. The Torres del Paine National Park was declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 1978. The most important attraction is the central mountain range where you can see the Horns of Paine and also the needles which were formed by the action of the many glaciers which surrounded the range. There are also many impressive lakes, glaciers, waterfalls and an extremely varied flora and fauna which makes this one of the most famous Chilean sites.

Travelers can enjoy the natural and cultural treasures of Chilean Patagonia year-round, and one does not need to climb high altitudes to view the region’s majestic mountains, which rise steeply from sea level. Throughout the region, in forests and prairie, it is possible to see guanacos, rheas, foxes, pumas, geese and wild ducks. In mountainous areas travelers can view glaciers, rivers and multicolored lakes, or enjoy the region’s labyrinth of fjords and channels. Excursions or treks in the area also take visitors to estancias, with their tin-walled houses, airy sheep-shearing barns and spacious corrals.
BAQUEANOS GUIDES
Our highly qualified guides are an important part of the experience, bringing color to those little things that are generally overlooked. The guide is the key to living extraordinary moments while learning about the essence of the region. They are people who come from different professional backgrounds, but all of them have one thing in common – a love for untamed Patagonia.
Hotel Las Torres Patagonia has the support of scientists from different specialties, who offer lectures and training for the guides, giving them knowledge about flora, fauna, geology and environment care.
They are friendly and discreet; the guides will meet you at the airport leading you through your Patagonian adventure, telling you about local history with special stories about the deep relation between locals and the amazing geography.

4:20 AM Transfer from the hotel in Santiago to the airport – early start!
5:40 AM Departure from Santiago
9:05 AM Arrival to Punta Arenas (3:25 hours flight)
9:45 AM Pick up at the airport & transfer from Punta Arenas towards Estancia Cerro Negro
11:45 AM Arrival at the traditional Estancia Cerro Negro, to enjoy a Patagonian lamb barbeque lunch with a shearing show.
The Estancia Cerro Negro (Black Hill) is located 2 hours away from Punta Arenas airport and takes its name from the main hill, blackened by the forest fires. Guests are entertained in the main dining room of the family home with a spotted lamb which is prepared during the day in the ranch’s wood stove.
The Kusanovic family owns the land and the family home, which is kept like a museum, preserving the property as well as the decor from the time of its inception. From sheepskin bedspreads, a German piano and lamps, to the books that contained the ranch’s finances, all can be found in the spacious house.
Among the activities at Estancia Cerro Negro, there is the shearing of sheeps, perhaps one of the biggest ranch tourist attractions. The wool is exported, but the work of shearing is carefully observed by visitors, who look on as José Luis Emmott, an authentic gaucho (cowboy) of Patagonia, leaves naked one of the 5,000 sheep owned by the ranch.

Snow-capped mountain peaks, cascading rivers and waterfalls, glaciers and mirrored lakes: in all respects, the Torres del Paine National Park deserves its reputation. It is internationally recognized as one of the most beautiful, unique and uncontaminated places on the planet.
Of the wildlife, it is the guanacos that receive most attention from visitors, and they are found in the vicinity of the Porteria Sarmiento.
However, it is also possible to see aquatic birds such as black necked swans, amongst others. And the majestic flight of the condors can also be observed.
